Can you Crack IIMs with less Percentile? IIM Selection Criteria for CAT 2023
In this article, we will talk about, for whatever reason if your CAT 2023 paper goes wrong, will you be able to get into the IIMs or the top-notch colleges? Will you get admission for MBA or not?
To get to know this, it’s very important to know the selection criteria of CAT 2023, At Stage 1, after your CAT exam, IIMs will check your record, and after that, you’ll get the interview call.
Stage 1st Selection Criteria of CAT 2023-
In stage 1, your CAT 2023 Percentile has a lot of weightage. 48%-65% of weightage has been given to the CAT score in Stage 1.
About 65 percent is what IIM Ahmedabad will consider, and Calcutta considers around 48%. As such, the major portion of the colleges’ selection criteria pertains to the CAT score. So, let’s take a look at what can be done if something goes wrong during the exam day.
Let’s understand this, You have 1. Gender Diversity 2. Academic Diversity 3. The past Academic Record 4. Work experience.
There’s no doubt that the CAT scores correspond to a major chunk but you can’t ignore these 4 factors. Now some of you will say my past academic record is very bad, but the thing you should understand is that you must have got 60 in 10 th and 60 in the 12th, so you’ll get some marks for sure. Plus, if you have work ex, you’ll also get little marks there.
If you are a girl student, you have a very big advantage because your gender diversity will come into play. If you’re a male candidate and you are a non-engineer you’ll also get a lot of advantages. Because you can get 4 percent marks for academic diversity.
Now let’s assume, if someone says that everything is messed up now tell me what I have to do. look in that scenario you’ve to do a little more in the CAT 2023, it’s a question of hard work.
But do you have to gun for the 99 Percentile? do you have to score 98 or 97? If you’re a general engineer male and your dream is IIM A B C, then definitely you need 99.50 percentile, There is no need for that if you are a general category student, IIM Bangalore gives the call to non-engineer at 86 percentile, I have seen this IIM Ahmedabad gives a call at 80 percentile too, and on 88-89 Percentile students have converted the call.

A 90 percentile will give you a very good advantage to get into baby IIMs, at 93 to 94 New IIMs will start opening. If you have 95 percentile and you are a general engineer male you can get calls from new IIMs, and if you are a non-engineer at 95 percentile you can get a call from old IIMs as well.
If you belong to SC-ST at the 95 percentile you can get calls from BLACKI (Ahmedabad-Bangalore-Calcutta-Calcutta-Indore-Kozhikode-Lucknow). For students who belong to categories SC-ST and PWD, for IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore, 97.50 percentile is needed. If your profile is very good and you are in the open category you can get calls from IIMs at 80-85.
Stage 2nd Selection Criteria of CAT 2023-
After getting the call, your CAT weightage comes down to 20 to 25 percent or 30 percent. Here you have 70% in your hand, out of this 70%, if you look at the table, your maximum weightage is for a personal interview and the WAT.
So CAT 2023 is only a pathway that helps you get eligible for IIMs interviews.
Keep the target that I want to get more than 95 percentile then only you will get 90 percentile, if Your target is 99 then you will get around 96-97 percentile. Give your 100%, give your best shot.
We have seen a lot of students, who get lower percentile in the CAT exam, and they perform very well in the interviews and they make it to the IIMs, on the other hand, I have also seen students scoring 99% in CAT but not taking their interviews seriously, and they will not be able to crack IIMs.

Just keep this one thing in your mind in the next 5 months, don’t take too much stress, and don’t overload yourself with unwanted information. if you are a non-engineer 90 to 95 is a very good number. If you are SC-ST try to get more than 80-85 Percentile, and your life is gonna be good.
For GEM, being a realistic mentor, I’ll tell you 99 + is required, sometimes 99.80 is also not enough for you to get a call from ABC, but other colleges will give you the calls so don’t worry.
If you look at CAT’s overall scenario, The main component of CAT 2023 is only one component. That is your Score, I agree that it is a crucial component there is no doubt about it. But we can’t ignore the other factors as well.
CAT 2023 is very important. But that is not the only thing, other things also do matter, now the target you’ve chosen for CAT Percentile, if you take the pressure, then you’ll not be able to perform well. So keep a realistic target.
If you can do 90 to 95 with very good motivation and positivity, you never know, if you keep your head well at D-day your 95 can get converted into 98, Remember this, at D-day, a lot of students are not able to score well, Why? because of Pressure, unwanted targets, and unrealistic goal setting, I’ve to score 99, and I’ll get into IIM A-B-C.
What is important guys is to be in the game, you got to be in the game till the end. Keep realistic targets, be positive, and keep motivated. By keeping realistic targets slowly and steadily you’ll observe that your target will go from 95 to 96 and from 96 to 97, and at the D-day, you’ll perform well.
Always remember it is not how you play the game, it’s not about how strong you are, it’s about you being in the game till the end, You stay in the game, and you win the game.
