CAT MOCK ANALYSIS TO ACE 99%LE | TARGET IIMs
The strategy for CAT MOCK ANALYSIS that I’ll be discussing today will definitely help you improve your score no matter what level you are on. It’s up to you how much time you want to devote to analyze a mock but in-depth analysis will be more beneficial. So, lets understand step by step how to analyze mocks and how you can improve your score.
1.TOPIC ANALYSIS
The first thing you need to do is identify that have you attempted questions from those topics you are well versed with and are pro in and if you got them correct. From arithmetic I would suggest you to focus on topics like Percentages, Profit & Loss, SICI and Averages as these are score booster topics.
You’ll see questions from these topics in all the mocks. As far Verbal Ability is concerned, I would suggest to do topics like Para Jumbles, Para Summary, Odd one out and Para completion. By attempting 8 questions from VA you can score 90%le.
2.ATTEMPTS
You need to understand how many topics you’re good at and how many attempts you got out of it. You need bifurcate your attempts into tough, easy, smart guesses, topics not covered and LOD of the question. A common mistake people tend to make is that they look at the topic and not at the LOD of the question.
You need to leave the questions that you have never done before even if it’s from a topic you are good at. First thing you need to avoid right now is smart guesses as we are in the month of august and not in the month of November. Don’t provoke yourself to make smart guesses because on the D-Day you will screw up. you need to work on your accuracy and maintain it.
3.NOT ATTEMPTED
Reasons why you did not attempt certain questions: – question was really tough, it was easy but left it, easy but could not gauge and topics not covered. So, you need to understand what category does the questions you’ve not attempted come in.
4.TIME MANAGEMENT
You need to split this into familiar and non-familiar. Typical questions from topics are called familiar questions. You need to find out why you took so much time to crack a question you’re familiar with. This means there is a problem with your understanding of the topic.
You should be able to crack familiar questions in the stipulated amount of time. What 90% of the students do is that they ignore the questions in which they have achieved 100% accuracy. You have to analyze them not on the solution front but on time management front. This is how your graph will go up. I would suggest you to not take non familiar questions as that will only waste your time in mocks and on the D-Day.
5.ACCURACY IS IMPORTANT WHILE CAT MOCK ANALYSIS
90% of the aspirants are not able to crack CAT because their fundamentals are not strong. Questions are going to be new but the fundamentals are going to be the same. Your accuracy in familiar topics should be 100%. You need to work on the topic in a detailed manner. Before giving full length mocks you need to perform well in topic wise mocks.
6.FIRST TIME SEEING A QUESTION IN MOCKS
You need to devote time to the questions you see for the first time in the mock and solve it afterwards and understand how you can solve it. You have to make a note of such questions and build your question bank. When you screw up in a mock that’s when you should put double efforts on cat mock analysis.
I HOPE THIS HELPED YOU ALL!
