CAT Score Vs Percentile Explained – CAT 2022 Percentile Based Scores
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a highly competitive examination conducted in India for admission into prestigious management programs. CAT percentile is a crucial measure that determines a candidate’s relative performance compared to other test-takers.

How are CAT Scores Calculated?
CAT Score refers to the score obtained by the candidate out of a total marks. In 2022, there were only 66 questions carrying 3 marks each. As per the marking scheme, 3 marks are awarded for every correct answer and 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. There are no negative marks for unattempted questions.
All the scores in all three sections are summed up and a total score is calculated.
VARC section: 24 questions (72 marks)
DILR section: 20 questions (60 marks)
QA section: 22 questions (66 marks)
How are CAT Percentile Calculated?
There is a particular formula to calculate the CAT Percentile.
P = Percentile Score
R = Rank based on a scale of CAT score or number of candidates who ranked below
N = Number of candidates who appeared in both slots
1: Calculate the total number of candidates who attempted the exam
2: Assign the rank given on the scaled score
3: Then calculate the percentile score
4: Calculate the total score

P = (R/N) × 100
Composite Score Calculation-
The composite score of the candidates is calculated by calculating their score after considering several parameters.
